I am glad that Hide's stylishness is appreciated!! Hide received 2011 Korea Best Dresser Swan Award in Seoul last Monday. Since 1983, the award show has rewarded the nation's best dressers from entertainment, sports, business and politics field. However, this is the first year that the award includes a foreigner in its international category.

Hide feels appreciated :"I am really honored because as I said on the stage it's my first ever award that I got specially in fashion. I love fashion, and that's why I am really happy to be here in Korea. I love Korea, so it's really wonderful".

Next charity match: Dubai!

Hide's commitment to continuously participate in charity matches is strong. After Perugia, Hong Kong, Thailand and Singapore, Hide is going to Dubai to support his fellow friend Marco Materazzi for "Friends of Libya's Children" exhibition matc. It will be held on November 8 at the Al Ahli Club ground in Al Ghusais.

"...The kick-off involving some of the most famous footballers of our times is slated for 8pm on that day.

According to organiser Jihad Muntasser, a former footballer and currently a consultant with Al Ahli, some of the other prominent names to attend the exhibition match will be Argentina's Javier Zanetti currently playing with Inter Milan; retired Czech Republic star Pavel Nedved; his fellow Czech striker Jan Koller; Japanese playmaker Hidetoshi Nakata, ex-England and Manchester United player Nicky Butt; and Italy's World Cup- winning coach Marcello Lippi.

"We are also in talks with Raul [Gonzales] and [Francesco] Totti to see if they too can make this trip. We should get a firm word from them in the next couple of days," Muntasser said.

Muntasser is an accomplished footballer in his own right. After starting his career at Italian side Pro Sesto, he moved to the English Premiership with Arsenal in 1997 before going to Bristol City on a free transfer. He ended his career at Al Ittihad in his native Libya.

"Whatever we manage to collect through this effort we will contribute for the cause of Libyan children," Muntasser said. "Time is short, but we have already commenced marketing this match as it is for a worthy cause."

Previously I posted about Hide being on the cover of Designare magazine and ..... I found the link to the interview!! Enjoy the amazing photos here. In my opinion, the interview doesn't reveal anything new about Hide. It touches the same-old topics: soccer, retirement, fashion and travel. I am missing something .... juicy or surprising.

Nevertheless, he looks amazing and doesn't fail to share his wisdom. My favorite is "In life, things do not always go the way you would like and in that situation it is important not to get angry or to give off negative emotions but to always try to accept the situation and try to always make the effort to turn it into a positive situation."

Hide is on the cover of Goethe magazine, for the fourth or fifth time. This time, however, he's playing golf. I am not sure if Hide plays golf often, but he did mention that he played golf when he went to Kenya to shoot Canon commercial years ago.

Louis Vuitton store opening: Marina Bay, Singapore

On September 19, LV opened its newest store in Singapore. Located in oh-so-gorgeous Marina Bay, this store is not a typical store. It is the first LV maison in Southeast Asia and has a deck, mezzanine and a bookstore. Next to that, visitors can also see art exhibition.

The opening night was filled with A-list celebs, from Cate Blanchett, Kobe Bryan and of course, Hide! Despite the humid and heat in Singapore, he showed up wearing a coat.

Vietnam charity match

Looks like Hide is very busy this year with organizing and attending charity matches! The next one will be in Vietnam, at 6 pm, June 15, at Ho Chi Minh City’s Thong Nhat Stadium. The majority of players come from South Korea , like Park Ji Sung and China, like Li Weifeng. Hopefully this one will attract more audiences than in HK!

Apparently the charity match in Hong Kong did not draw as much audiences as the organizer wanted to. With a capacity of 40,000 audiences, the stadium only housed 7,282 fans. But anyway, I am still happy that Hide managed to play in both first and second round, given the fact that he just played another match in Perugia just few days before.

This is not the first time Hide shows up in a movie event. Previously he has attended Cannes film festival with his good friend Takuya Kimura. Too bad that at that time he was injured. In 2007 Hide also attended Cannes festival, this time with his remarkable style in Dolce & Gabbana Party.

Nakata - Depp: most unlikely combination?

Yes it is hard to believe that they actually met and posed together, since they have very few things in common. But on May 4th, they met for a press meeting of Depps' latest movie : “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides”. The press meeting was specially held for the Japanese media in LA, due to sympathy over victims of Japan's earthquake.

As reported on TokyoHive.com :
"Although the atmosphere was tense initially, Depp brightened the mood by joking, “I’m sorry we couldn’t hold the meeting in Japanese.” Afterwards, Nakata, who has been invited to the world premier of the film on the 7th, shook hands with Depp.

Nakata commented, “I was a big fan of this film, and I really wanted to meet Johnny-san, so I’m really happy today.”

On a banner made by the film’s staff, Depp wrote, “With utmost respect and all my support always.” Nakata wrote the message, “Until the day when further development is made!!” The banner will be traveling with the film production team to the Russian and UK premieres, before it is delivered to the Japanese premiere on the 17th along with messages from all over the world."

Charity match in Thailand

Whoa forgive me for not being on top of things. But I just realized that Hide just had a charity match in Thailand on May 18 (yesterday). People in his Take Action team include Masakiyo Maezono, and other teammates of his during his U-17 days. Nobuyuki Zaizen and other Japanese players playing in Thailand also joined the training session. They played against Thailand Stars (full of Thai current and ex soccer players).

A day before that Hide had an open-for-public training session, and he commented:
"I played with Zaizen during my U-17 days. I'm glad to see him again at an event like this after 20 years"
"This charity match is just part of our activities to help the victims, and I hope to continue on doing this so that this won't be the last. We'll go all out and give it our best, and I hope the fans will have fun too. We also have other events planned on the day itself, so I encourage people to please come and watch the match"

The match raises 43 million yen or 563,574.09 USD with 11,000 audiences. The match ended 2-2.

Hide commented "I really appreciate the help that the people of Thailand has given. I'm glad that we were able to gather a lot of people today, as well as donations from them"

Nakata also told the local media: "(about playing in the Thai League) I have to build up my body for a year or 2, but I do want to try playing here". Nakata also got an offer from Singapore when he played there last April.

They were able to raise 16.3M Baht (43M Yen) and this will be donated to the victims of both Japan's earthquake and Thai's floods.
"The recovery process will take a lot of time, it will be important to continue on with these activities and not just stop in the first few months"

Nakata will also be playing a Charity match in Perugia this year. He played for the club from 1998~2000 in the Serie A (now in Serie D). He will be playing with the former members of Perugia.

Nakata: A lot of people love soccer here in Thailand. Today's a holiday, and I'm really glad that a lot of people came to watch, and that we were able to raise a huge amount. I think that it's a huge thing that a lot of people came today so we can keep doing this moving forward. I played with Zai (Zaizen) when I was 14, 15 and I'm really happy that I got to play with him again today (source)

Hide to play in a charity match in Hong Kong

Hide has been busy raising funds for victims of Japan's earthquake. His latest activity includes joining a charity match in Hong Kong against Spain’s Villareal next week. Hide will be a part of Hong Kong league champions Kitchee.

“We are happy to have secured Nakata’s services,” Kitchee boss Ken Ng Kin told the South China Morning Post. “He has been very busy playing in a number of charity games and has to change his schedule to come to Hong Kong.

“Nakata will wear jersey number 80 as the match is also part of the club’s 80th anniversary celebrations.”

Hidetoshi Nakata is arguably the most popular football player in Japan.

During his 10-year career, he played for the national team in three Fifa World Cup tournaments and in the Olympics twice. He retired in 2006.

For the last two weeks, he has been travelling around Asia to seek support for earthquake and tsunami victims in his home country.

"I never say I understand their feelings and situation. I don't think I can understand," he told the BBC.

"But I just want to tell them that we support you even though you can't see me."

The massive 9.0-magnitude earthquake struck the north-eastern coast of Japan on 11 March, triggering a tsunami.

More than 10,000 people lost their lives. Many more are injured and missing.

Millions of survivors are still affected by a lack of electricity, water and transportation.

'Not forgotten'

Even in the country which experiences many earthquakes, the scale of this disaster is the biggest in living memory.

"When the disaster happened, I was in Hong Kong, just watching it on TV," Mr Nakata said. "I couldn't believe it. I picked up my phone to talk to my family and friends."

He was very quick to act.

"I immediately cancelled all my schedule. Because I had to do something right now. I had to move right now."

He flew to Taiwan where he took part in a charity event on 18 March. A pair of boots and two jerseys that he donated fetched more than $300,000 (£18,800) at auction.

"Sports is really big - especially football is worldwide. Football can bring and connect all the people which is very important right now and also for the future as well," he said.

Mr Nakata is now in Singapore. His Take Action Foundation will stage a charity match against a Singapore League select side on 2 April.

"Here in Singapore, they responded really quickly, they organised these events - the charity gala and the football match in a very short time, which is really great and very meaningful."

"I am really touched by all the other countries which are organising fund-raising events and donating money. I think this is something we can never forget, forever."

"You are not alone," Mr Nakata said with messages from all over the world for the survivors of the disaster.

"I think people are really afraid to be forgotten," he added. "We have to support them for the longer term, not only right now."

Charity match in Singapore # 2

WHEN the S-League club chairmen convened for a counsel meeting last Monday to discuss a charity drive to raise funds for victims of the recent Japan earthquake and tsunami disaster, they thought of bringing in a famous Japanese footballer to star in a charity football friendly.

They turned to Daisuke Korenaga, chairman of Albirex Niigata and asked half-jokingly: "Can you get Nakata?"

It was wishful thinking, but that became reality yesterday at Resorts World Sentosa, when Hidetoshi Nakata officially announced his intention to play in a charity match at Jalan Besar Stadium on Saturday.

Prior to the game, he will host a gala dinner at Resorts World Sentosa on Thursday, when he will donate memorabilia for an auction to raise funds for the disaster victims.

How did Korenaga secure the services of one of Japan's most famous footballers - someone who had plied his trade in top European leagues, like the Italian Serie A and the Barclays Premier League, and played in three World Cup Finals?

"Two days after the meeting, I called Nakata's agent," he said. "They agreed almost immediately. It was very smooth-sailing."

As it turned out, Nakata was equally eager to help the disaster victims, and had just set up his first charity project called Take Action Foundation.

The 34-year-old, who retired from professional football in 2006, was ready to play charity games in as many countries as possible when Korenaga came calling.

"I've began some training again, but after so long out (of the game), I'm not at my peak, so I'm sorry if I can't be at my top level during the game," said the former midfield maestro.

"But I'm not too concerned about how much we can raise for the victims. I'm just concerned about doing something for them. And I urge everyone to also try and do something to help - big or small, it doesn't matter."

Nakata will feature in an Albirex Niigata Singapore Selection side that also include former Japanese international players Masaaki Sawanobori and Masakiyo Maezono, as well as Japanese players from other S-League clubs.

As Japan struggle with their rescue and rebuilding efforts following the magnitude 9 earthquake and tsumani on March 11, one of the country's biggest sports stars, Hidetoshi Nakata, and the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) are teaming up to raise funds for the victims.

Two events under the "S-League Cares, Take Action with Albirex Niigata project" have been scheduled: A gala dinner with Nakata, who played for Japan in the 1998, 2002 and 2006 Fifa World Cups, at Resorts World Sentosa on Thursday, and a charity match on Saturday at Jalan Besar Stadium.

The ex-Japanese striker will turn out for Albirex Niigata against an S-League All Stars side.

"Everybody knows the disaster in Japan is very big," the 34-year-old said at a press conference at Resorts World yesterday. "We are trying to manage things by ourselves, but this time we need help from other countries.

"The victims need to feel that other people care for them."

Nakata spent most of his career playing in the Italian Serie A, and a season with Premiership club Bolton before retiring in 2006.

Nakata was in Hong Kong attending a charity gala when the disaster struck his homeland, and as the tragedy unfolded, he appealed for support for his fellow countrymen.

Singapore is the first to organise a charity match and it will be the first time he will be using his footballing talent for such a cause.

"I came here immediately because Singapore organised these two events at such short notice. It is incredible and very meaningful for the relationship between Japan and Singapore."

S-League clubs Albirex, Home United, Courts Young Lions and Etoile FC were among the first here to donate proceeds from their matches.

This is the first time the FAS are involved raising funds for a cause outside the Republic.

Said FAS president Zainudin Nordin: "We told Albirex it was painful to watch what was happening in Japan and we needed to do something to help the victims there. We have had a short period to get things together, but we want to help our friends and got things going as fast as we could." source

Taiwanese actor Jerry Yan and former Japanese footballer Hidetoshi Nakata are the next to lend their hands in the Japanese-Yunnan disaster relief.

Recently, Nakata's boss uploaded a photo of Jerry and Nakata on his Twitter account, after they dined with the Taiwanese actor.

Jerry gave a shout-out to the Japanese citizens through the post, saying, "Press on! I would very much like to help too. I couldn't believe my eyes when I first saw the tsunami. I will be there soon, there wouldn't be any problems."

This was the first time Jerry and Nakata had met. Throughout the dinner, the pair discussed how they could help the victims in not only Japan, but Yunnan, China as well.

Jerry encouraged his fans to do their best for the people in these two places, while Nakata had already travelled to China to raise funds.

Jerry had always enjoyed immense popularity in Japan. It was rumoured that the actor had already donated NT$1 million (approx. S$43,000) to aid the quake victims.

He is also currently discussing volunteer plans with his management agency, but the latter fears for Jerry's safety.

Hide draw NT$100 m. bid for tsunami victims in Japan

Taipei, March 22 (CNA) Three items in a fundraising auction for Japan earthquake relief attracted a bid that was 333 times the floor price Tuesday.

The top bid for a pair of soccer shoes and two jerseys donated by Hidetoshi Nakata, a former FIFA top 100 player, was over NT$100 million (US$3.4 million) four hours into the online auction at Yahoo! Taiwan's charity platform.

The auction will end on March 27, after which the proceeds will go to the Red Cross Society of Taiwan for the quake relief efforts, according to the auction page.

The base price was NT$300,000, the amount paid for the items by local TV producer Wang Wei-zhong in a March 18 telethon fundraiser for Japan.

Nakata, who flew to Taiwan to attend the fundraiser, donated the autographed items during the telethon, which raised a total of NT$788 million in four hours.

Wang's offer to buy the items directly during the telethon stirred a huge controversy, with many netizens criticizing him as "robbing" the public of the chance to place a bid.

A Facebook page, created to protest against Wang's controversial purchase, had drawn 16,570 "like" clicks as of Tuesday.

The news also appeared on Japan's Yahoo! website last Sunday.

The day after the telethon, Wang and the organizers said they would donate the shoes and jerseys again for an online auction, which included items donated by other Japanese celebrities such as members of the rock bands Luna Sea and X Japan.

Hide's journey across Japan can be seen on TV again. It's aired every Saturday night from 21:54 to 22:00 (very short, eh?) starting from March 5th.

Meanwhile, a contemporary ceramic exhibition in Ibaraki Ceramic Art Museum from Feb 23 till Mar 13. The displayed art works are sourced from Hide's journeys during the taping of Revalue Nippon. The exhibition is intended to encourage the development of Japanese traditional culture.
